Our History
In October 1990, a few dedicated people met together with a religious idea and purpose in mind to organize a new church. We began holding Sunday School in the home of the late Brother Hunter Sharp, then Worship Service at Mt. Vision M.B. Church until we could obtain a place of our own. On December 29, 1990, a meeting to organize the church was called to order in our first home at Delta Mart Shopping Center with Rev. John E. Cameron, Sr., moderator of the Central District Association of the Progressive National Baptist Convention for the state of Mississippi, presiding. A humble 45 persons were present, but it was stated that approximately 70 persons would initially make up the congregation. • It was moved, seconded by many, and unanimously approved that this church body be established and named the First Hyde Park Missionary Baptist Church, December 29, 1990. • It was moved, seconded by many with no opposition that Rev. Terry L. Davis be named Pastor of First Hyde Park Missionary Baptist Church. Other appointments and ministries were designated by the pastor at that time. One choir was formulated and began singing on the second Sunday in January 1991. In November 1993, God moved us from that storefront facility and blessed us with a home of our own at 2750 Coleman Avenue. We worshipped in the original sanctuary facing the creek until December, 1996. Then God granted favor again enabling us to build and construct an even more WELCOMING entrance to our new and present sanctuary facing Coleman Avenue. Our original sanctuary is enjoyed as our Fellowship Hall. In 2007, we Burned the Mortgage!.... Glory to our God! Time is made up of seasons and changes; over the years, some have transitioned on...some passed on...some moved on... and some have hung on. We stand as confirmed believers that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much, and we remain… “The little church with a big heart where a stranger meets a friend and Jesus Christ meets us all.”
